Rock Maple Racing came again to Black Mountain of Maine this past weekend. It was a great turnout. 400 racers and numerous spectators braved the wind and cold on Saturday. The competitors put on an incredible show with jumps, hairpin turns, and negotiated the upper land mine moguls. They crashed, bumped and jumped their way to the checkered flag. This sport has a special place for me, I raced for 5 years, from 2000-2005. This sport is not for the faint of heart, it is rigorous and fast paced, an adrenaline rush. I loved racing and miss it a lot. Being there this weekend was bitter sweet, I wanted to participate but I know the pain my body would feel the next day. I was happy to just watch and capture some great images.
I saw this racer bobble in the land mine area and knew he was going to come off his sled. Sure enough he did. He broke his visor on his helmet and fortunately he didn't get hurt.
